Carlos the Jackal pledges alliance to Osama bin Laden

He has just published a book in French to announce his conversion to Islam and present his strategy for "the destruction of the United States through an orchestrated and persistent campaign of terror." Entitled "Revolutionary Islam" (Editions du Rocher, 2003) and published under the name Ilich Ramírez Sánchez-CARLOS, the book urges "all revolutionaries, including those of the left, even atheists," to accept the leadership of Islamists such as Osama bin Laden and so help turn Afghanistan and Iraq into the "graveyards of American imperialism."

Carlos had also concluded that the United States could not be destroyed by any military rival. What was needed was a campaign of terror that would separate the United States from its allies and then destroy its self-confidence. This campaign would require a large number of volunteers ready both to kill and to die for the cause. Carlos saw that only revolutionary Islam could recruit the large numbers of killers and martyrs necessary to destroy the United States.

Carlos claims that terrorism is "the cleanest and most efficient form of warfare." By killing civilians, he argues, the terrorist saps the morale of the enemy and forces its leadership to submit to the demands of the revolution or surrender.

Despite the numbers of Iraqi dead and the travesty of Abu Ghraib, the Iraqi
insurgents know that we did not come to their country to rape their women or to
kill innocent civilians. Every thinking person in the Muslim world understands
that if our goal had been to kill Iraqis and steal their oil, millions of Iraqis
would now be dead and their oil would be flowing. The terrible truth about our
predicament in Iraq is that even if we had invaded with no other purpose than to
remove Saddam Hussein from power and make Iraq a paradise on Earth, we should
still expect tomorrow's paper to reveal that another jihadi has blown himself to
bits for the sake of killing scores of innocent men, women and children.
We are now mired in a religious war in Iraq, and elsewhere. Our enemies, as witnessed by their astonishing willingness to slaughter themselves, are not principally motivated by political or economic grievances. Anyone who imagines that terrestrial concerns account for terrorism by Muslims must explain why there are no Palestinian Christian suicide bombers. They, too, suffer the ordeal of the Israeli occupation. Where are the Tibetan Buddhist suicide bombers for that matter? The Tibetans have suffered an occupation far more brutal than any we or the Israelis have imposed on the Muslim world. The truth that we must finally confront is that Islam contains specific doctrines about martyrdom and jihad that directly inspire Muslim terrorism.

Inherent to Islam are certain traits and characteristics that convey survival benefits to the Muslim population. Muslim populations are isolated, thereby excluding other traits and ideas. Muslims have a high birth rate. Non-Muslims can be killed. Radical Islam has an even greater benefit because moderate Muslims can also be killed.

Very generally speaking, evolution occurs when:

1. A mutation occurs
2. That mutation conveys some survival benefit
3. Eventually, the individuals with less viable traits die off
4. Those with the more adaptive trait will eventually dominate the population

Here are the steps applied to Islam:

1. Islam introduced
2. Islam conveys a survival benefit through high birth rates and killing non-muslims
3. Non-muslims are killed and/or have fewer offspring and eventually die out
4. Eventually, only Muslims will survive.

Saddam routinely tortured his own people in the most horrendous manner;

Saddam was responsible for some of the greatest environmental catastophies the world has ever known;

Saddam created a police state;

Saddam violated the collective will of the United Nations and stole millions of dollars from the food for oil program;

Saddam lied to his own people;

Saddam skimmed billions of dollars from his country for his own use;

Saddam was responsible for the deaths as many as 500,000 people;

Saddam supported terrorism.

And yet somehow Bush is the bad guy for orchestrating Saddam's removal and needs to be voted out of office?

There is no moral, legal, or rational reason for this line of thinking.

An objective, non-partisan critique of the Iraq liberation would focus almost exclusively on the intelligence failure.

If those who opposed the war focused on this issue, they would have the support of 80% of conservatives and republicans.

Instead, they make all these stupid arguments that are personal to Bush (he's a liar, he's corrupt, he's stupid, etc., etc., etc) and betray the partisan motives behind their attacks.

As soon as someone focuses on voting Bush out of office, instead of on fixing the intelligence problems, they lose all credibility on the issue.

These partisans never even make the connection between the intelligence failure and voting Bush out of office. They are simply too blinded by their hatred of Bush to make this argument.

If Kerry was smart, he would say: Bush needs to go because the intelligence failure occured on his watch.
